Street Dog Hero

Be a Hero. Be a Foster

Street Dog Hero flies dogs to loving homes in the Pacific Northwest from around the globe,
including Mexico, India, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, China and South Korea. Fostering
is a critical part of the rescue process. Every dog must have a foster home before they fly.
By opening your home and heart to a rescue dog you are truly saving a life and being a hero.

Quite simply, without fosters, we can’t save lives.

Street Dog Hero has rescued over 590 dogs in the last 2 years

because of foster families like you.

Why Foster a Street Dog?

Fostering a dog is a fun and rewarding experience! Here’s why:

LOVE: The foster dog learns they are loved. Watching a dog that has been on the streets, neglected or abused enter your loving home is a magical and beautiful thing.
LOYAL: They are endlessly grateful to the family who welcomes them in.
FLEXIBLE: Fostering is flexible. Fostering can be for a day or longer term depending on the situation.
FUN: There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a former street dog come out of their shell and become the dog they always wanted to be!
REWARDING: When you get to see your foster pup go home to their new loving family and start a new life it is one of the most heart warming and rewarding feelings knowing you made that happen!

Time Commitment: The time frame of fostering varies greatly. Sometimes a dog you choose to foster may get adopted before they even arrive. Sometimes it only takes a few days, or maybe you are an interim for another foster. Other times we have harder to place dogs that take longer. If you are fostering and your plans change or you are going out of town we can accommodate that. We all work together and are very flexible. Just give it a try!

Is It Safe: Yes! We ensure all dogs are fully vetted and vaccinated before flying and entering the U.S. Upon arrival all dogs receive a wellness exam at one of our partnering veterinary clinics to ensure the dog is healthy and happy in your home.

Isn’t it hard to give them up? It’s a common question and the answer is two-fold. Is it hard? A little, but seeing a family overjoyed with love who is welcoming in your pup the way they have always deserved is more rewarding and joyful than the tiny piece of sad you will feel. Trust us, it is a good feeling not a bad one.
