Meet Meaty! Meaty is an American Bully who is about 2 years old and weighs 55lbs. Meaty was found wandering the streets of Denver, Colorado and was picked up and surrendered to a shelter where no one claimed him. A local dog trainer rescued him and has brought him to Oregon for adoption. Meaty has been through a lot of training and is even off-leash reliable! Meaty is looking for a leader; someone to take his training seriously to help him be the very best version of himself. This person needs to be a strong handler who is willing to give him love in conjunction with discipline to help him continue to be the stable, sweet boy he is. True to his breed, he does not know the concept of a stranger. He is very engaging with humans and loves to cuddle. Also true to his breed, he can go from being incredibly calm to incredibly excited when he is “in drive.” He loves other dogs, but no cats or small children as he is just too much of a powerhouse. He can act like a bull in a China shop if he does not have the right feedback from his handlers, but when you use his training, he is so well behaved! He is not a dog park dog but would love to go on hikes and chill at a brewery. Meaty has food allergies and is on a raw diet, there are no exceptions to this. He’s looking for someone to take advantage of his wonderful skills and to continue his training. He comes with free lessons from Flash Dog Training. Meaty was rescued from Denver, Colorado. Will you be his hero?
steps to adopting
The first step to adopting a dog from SDH is to complete the adoption application. The application takes a few days to be approved. Once completed and approved it is good for all dogs and saved for future use.
To finalize an adoption you must complete the contract and pay an adoption fee of $300. The adoption fee helps cover our costs. On average, per dog, it costs between $300-$700 for vetting, transport, sterilization and more. All dogs are rescued and do not transport to SDH until they are healthy and ready to be adopted. All dogs are vetted before they fly, given standard vaccines and rabies, dewormed, given flea/tick treatments and tested for heart worm. Most dogs are sterilized before they fly, however if this is not the case we will spay/neuter them once they arrive at our cost.
Upon arrival all dogs are seen for a wellness exam and parasite screening. Any treatment necessary is at our expense.
