Pony-sized, Tiny the Great Dane, was always taken care of and loved by the family he was with since he was a baby in Mexico. But they decided to give him up to a rescue organization because they lived near a busy road and he was afraid he’d be hit since he was deaf. He spent the next couple of years with 2 different rescues in Mexico that took very good care of him, before finally finding his forever home. Due to his size, we could not fly him here from Mexico, so he took a long road trip with a few lucky others in the winter of 2021 to Central Oregon and it didn’t take long for a perfect family to come along and fall in love with him.
He is now Sebastian and here is his pupdate:
“We adopted Sebastian shortly before Thanksgiving of 2021. My dear friend fosters dogs for Street Dog Hero and sent me a picture of him and I immediately wanted to bring him home. We headed to Bend, OR as soon as he arrived to do a meet and greet and we knew he was the dog for us and brought him home immediately.
Sebastian has traveled far to get to his forever home. He has adapted very well to his new life with his family. He is very tolerant of our kids and so gentle with everyone he meets. Although he is deaf, it hasn’t hindered him from enjoying the same things as other dogs do. He has learned some hand motions for communicating ‘lay down’, and ‘come here’. His favorite things are taking daily walks, greeting the kids when they come home from school, playing outside with the kids, chewing on bones, and lounging around. He and I play the game of tag with his bone where he tempts me to try and grab it and then he runs around with the bone and it starts again. It’s adorable! I am very happy Sebastian came into our lives. He has added a lot more excitement, fun, and laughs. He really is a gentle giant that just wants to be a part of everything we do.
I have learned a lot more about Sebastian’s past after I set up an Instagram page for him. The rescue in Cancun, Mexico, (@rivierarescue) contacted me saying that they missed him very much. They also shared with me some photos of him as a puppy, which was very special. I also found out he was in a photo shoot for a fundraiser and he was very well loved in Mexico by many who had met him. I am very happy to know he had such a loving past, which isn’t the case with many rescues. Sebastian’s IG page is @sebastiangreatdane if you’d like to follow along.” – Sebastian’s mom
